I love it when they allow you to approach or even lie on them! My Percheron/TB gelding Buster used to sleep lying down so much it worried me a little. I would lie on top of him and revel in the feeling of rising and falling. He seemed even larger than when standing like that. After a while, he'd look me in the eye and lift his head, a sign to get off. He'd rise and greet me properly, and we'd get on with the day. I wish I had photos like yours.
