This week, there were several posts on Bonita, as she settled in and I got to know her a bit. I will be posting regular updates on her progress on Sundays. So this is the first.

Bonita is proving to be a smart girl and does learn fast. I led her in from turnout last night after all the other horses were in and we had some discussion about her concern with being separated from her new buddies and not putting her shoulder into me and ignoring me. It ended up with her leading on a loose line, head level, about 2′ off my left shoulder. Yes, I lead and do most everything from both sides.

My friend Pam is wanting to document her training with video, so I might have the first one next week. The next step will be getting her into long lines and, after her teeth are done, trying her in a bit.

She is being handled by other people at the barn for turn in and turn out and I am getting good reports on her behavior. Everyone comments on her soft coat. They touch her and fall in love! it feels like short rabbit fur.

  1. I bet she has the “pelt” like coat like Asad had. She sure looks like she does.

  2. I am curious to know it that is the case, when you see her. I’ve always wondered what you meant by that.
