It’s time to post an update on what’s happening with Paisano. In November, I took my last ride out with him at Mt. Pisgah. I ran into Lisa and Laura and Lisa took some photos.

Then he shipped off to Utah a few days later with Zelda and Mike.

He has settled in very well with Amanda and Cody. He has two fillies to care for and watch over. I am very happy that he has his own little herd now. I wasn’t able to have him in a place where he could be turned out in a group. Now he really has that.

Amanda has her own blog at Earth Dancer Spanish Mustangs, where you can see updates on Paisano, Rosie and Miss. And the recent photos of Rosie and Paisano on her Flickr site make my heart melt. It is wonderful for me to see him find such an excellent home, where he is loved by both his equine and human friends.

She was likely born sometime in the early hours last Friday morning, June 26th. This is Paisano’s forth foal and Lily’s second. Lily will now have a long, probably permanent break from carrying any more foals. This filly is nearly a carbon copy of her dam, with the addition of a cute blaze and a front sock. She has a similar hind right sock to Lily’s. Here are a few photos from her first day. More may be found here and here.

Margarita is owned by Amy Jo Maurer & Sally Harmon of Tired Dog Ranch. Be sure to visit their blog often for updates. I will very much enjoy watching this little girl grow up.

Cobriza in Fall 2007 before she left Eugene

I am very happy to announce that Cobriza (Cora) is now owned by Anne-Marie Pinter of Garden Valley, CA. She arrived at her new home last Friday. I’ve had reports that she is settling in well. I look forward to hearing about her new adventures with Anne-Marie!

Cobriza is Lily’s full sister. She came to Akal Ranch on February 21, 2007. She is nicely gaited and saddle trained. Cora is very responsive on the ground and under saddle, almost to a fault. At first, she was quite spooky and twitchy when touched. She settled down after being with me for a couple of months. I started riding her and found that riding a gaited horse was fun! We’ve did a few trail rides and a clinic, where Cora was just a star. She really made me proud. Here is a video of highlights from our lesson…

I could trim her without haltering her and her feet are fabulous. Cora is a sensitive and intelligent mare and I really enjoyed working with her. She challenged me to become a more sensitive horseperson, always a good thing.

Cobriza has had one foal, AR Theory, owned by Susan Catt. Theory is a lovely, solid bay and by Paisano.

Cora was leased to Susan, who did some gait training with her. I hope that some day, Ann-Marie may let me ride her again. Here she is ridden by Susan…

The Watcher

Shanti has very nice movement, showing gait quality suitable for dressage with a positive DAP trot and nice rounded canter. She also has the potential for trail riding and endurance, being bold and self assured. She has no soundness issues and has straight legs and excellent feet.

Her sire, Prairie Warrior, is a bay roan overo stallion out of Paha Sungilasa and Special Warrior. Warrior’s lines include Chato, Esperanza, Cochise, Doby, Sioux Chief and Blue Corn. Shanti’s dam, Slatey Lady, is a grulla, who’s bloodlines include Jack Slade, Annie Oakley, Narragansett, Andaluz, Lonesome and Shoshoni.

Shanti has the bloodlines to make a great broodmare for any Spanish Mustang program. Or with the proper handling and a sensitive trainer, she could be a nice saddle horse. She will need an experienced trainer and is not for the novice owner. She is not suited to be kept as an only horse.

Shanti (now Lakota) is now owned by D and John Nolan and lives in southern California.
