It would fall out, as would the hay. I guess I am not quite sure what you mean about turning it upside down. How would I refill it? Lily knew where the extra hay was, hehehe. The hay feeder is a neat idea but I don't think it would work with Ricochet. I believe he would get aggravated too easily with it because he wouldn't be able to get the hay out quick enough. He does well though with the hay bag I have. It is made out of canvas and has a hole in the center which is just perfect for burying half of his head in the hay---and that is how he likes to eat... Good luck with Cirro's feeding.
