Well, the SMR meeting is over, Paisano is delivered to his new barn and I am finally home!
Paisano spent a bit of time in his stall meeting the neighbors over the walls. They are just low enough that they can touch noses and see eachother’s eyes. I was a bit concerned about that, but he settled just fine. There were a few squeals with the gelding, but none with the mare. Go figure…
They kicked out at eachother and squealed, but never made contact and would retire to separate ends of the arena. We decided to try them outside. The paddock is maybe three to four acres with a slope and a few trees at the far side. A mare lives out there all the time. I had reservations, but tried him out there first on a long lead. Paisano and True repeated what they had done in the arena, so I let him go… It was very calm. Paisano just wandered away to check manure piles, fresh hay and grass.
I was glad to see that Paisano backed down from another horse. And that there is a future for him turned out with a herd.

Well he sure looks happy. I am so happy for you Simrat and for him that he will have a great opportunity now to beloved and have a great horse life. Not only that but also to excel!
This is as it should be. He looks absolutely beautiful!
It was really interesting to watch him and True. They looked like they were really going at it, but they always missed eachother by a mile. It was really all for show. Silly geldings!
Since True turned possessive, the mare has been relocated next door with a mare/foal pair. The BO said that before that, True would stay as far away from the mare as possible. I guess that he still thought she was his.
Wow! I love the interaction!
Hello! I came across your blog, because I saw the name Paisano, and I recognized it from when I was down in Albany at the NW Horse Expo last year (2008).
He is a very handsome horse, and I remember commenting about your booth, and watching you ride him. Did you recently sell him, or did you just move to a new location?
Hi, Melanie,
I gelded him last September, sold him to AZ in November and now have him back home. Long story short, it wasn’t a fit and now I get to explore getting to know him as a gelding.
