Gratitude creates it’s own attitude. It can give you a new perspective, a new focus. I am going to use this day as my opportunity to see those things.
I came out in the living room tonight. I was going to tell my son that it was time to go to bed. I found him watching an OPB piece on Monty Python. I found that I had to sit down and watch too. What fun to see it freshly through his eyes. It never grows old. “And now for something completely different…..”
We recently saw the new Harry Potter movie. While it was enjoyable, what I remember most is a preview for a movie of “Where the Wild Things Are.” It made me remember what a wonderful book that was and how many times I read it as child and then reread it to my own children. I loved the pacing of the story. It still captivates me. I believe that “let the wild rumpus start!!” Indeed!
So what I find I am really grateful for is how my children help me to remember, remain young in mind and excited about life.
Sit back and consider what you have to be thankful for. Listing three to five things is nice, but one will do.

I am loving my new barn. I have really gotten used to full care board! Paisano is happy and relaxed when I get there. He has nice neighbors on either side of his paddock and the arena is lovely. This weekend, we will get out on the trails at Mt. Pisgah, just seven tenths of a mile away. Last night I was able to give him a bath, let him romp while he dried (in a lovely cedar footed turnout) and ride … all in the time that I used to do chores and maybe get in riding time. And I am so grateful that he is under the care of conscientious, knowledgeable, and kind horsepeople.
Sunshine … it’s here … interspersed with occasional thunderstorms. We had a huge one on Sunday. Thunder crashed overhead with resounding booms. Paisano reared and bucked in his paddock and it was generally exciting … and wet! While it definitely got in the way of unpacking at the new barn, it was exhilarating at the same time. When it is not booming and opening the skies on us, the sun beats down and makes me lazy, in the lovely summer way. And I revel in it.
I am thankful for my friends. Those that I talk to regularly, see in person and those that I don’t. All are valued, even if it is primarily in the memories of times past.

… Hargobind Singh Atwal was born. I am grateful that such a wonderful soul joined our family those years ago. And that he has grown into a fine, young man.

I had a great (and tiring, hot) day at Inavale. I was a backup timer on one of the hazards for a CDE (Combined Driving Event). This is like three day eventing in harness. Today was the marathon, the equivalent of cross country jumping.
It must have been close to 100 degrees by mid afternoon. Some of the horses were visibly tired and a few pulled. But some were very fit and really impressive!
I started to have visions of Paisano out there on the course, then Vinnie, THEN them as a father-son pair. Then I considered Lily and Margarita as a matched pair! Oh, yes, I was fantasizing big time. Then I considered the amount of training, time and funds to get to that point. Still, with long term planning, maybe…
It certainly would be great to get some Spanish Mustangs out in this type of competition. If you perform well with good turnout, you can do well. There were many breeds of all sorts and all sizes there today. And I do think that my horses could handle it quite well. Let’s see where we are in a couple of years!
