I drove up to Westfir to TDR today. The mountains were really lovely with wispy mist and clouds in amongst the fir trees. Even without sunshine, it was beautiful.

After visiting with Amy Jo and Sally a bit, Amy Jo and I took off for a ride through the woods, me on Lily and her or Cornelius. Lily was offering gait so readily. And when I let her choose the speed, it was fast! And FUN! I love zipping through the trees like that. Every so often I would push a branch out of way and forget that makes it rain on you. I soon took to leaning down on her neck as she motored along to duck under branches instead.

It was a short ride, as Lily’s filly, Rita, is still only three months old. I put Lily back and collected Vin. He loaded up like a champ and we were on our way to his new home. I found a small, family run barn just down the road from Three Cedars, where Paisano still is. Lily will move down to join Vinnie when Rita is ready to wean.

So Vinnie is all settled in. He will stay out in a paddock for the next couple of weeks. Then they will start to bring the horses in at night, when the weather gets worse. I set up his stall and showed it to him. He whinnied a few times, but otherwise seemed just fine. He really likes the oat hay I bought yesterday too. He was eating it before the orchard grass that he has been eating. I groomed him, met the other boarders and we both enjoyed the last bit of sun coming through the clouds.

I will be stretched between two barns until Paisano leaves, tentatively the first week of November. I will be taking Vinnie down to the Three Cedars arena to work him, as the new barn doesn’t have an indoor. I do like the cozy, low key atmosphere there and look forward to many rides out next summer on Lily…

Sorry for the lack of photos today. I was so focused on getting Vin set, that I forgot my camera. I promise that there will be plenty to come.
